Frostbite is an injury that happens when your skin is exposed to freezing temperatures for an extended period of time. Due to prolonged exposure to a freezing environment, the tissue that is present below the skin freezes, even though the temperature is above the freezing point.
There are three stages of frostbite: Frostnip, surface frostbite and deep frostbite. The last and third stage of frostbite is more severe and can lead to serious injury to the body.
