Pine Island Glacier — a region of fast-flowing ice draining in West Antarctica — may cross tipping points, which can lead to future global sea-level rise. Pine Island Glacier is losing more ice than any other glacier in Antarctica and has been a cause of concern.

Along with the neighbouring Thwaites glacier, the region is responsible for about 10 per cent of the ongoing increase in global sea level.
