Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil left the Gunners after he refused to take a 15 percent lay cut from the club. The majority of the players agreed on 12.5 percent. However, Ozil was not among the players who agreed to a pay cut.
After his denial, he was criticized by the fans and his stock fell drastically with manager Mikel Arteta who froze out Ozil during his final season with Arsenal.
