Barometers close near day's high; Nifty ends tad below 17,500 mark

The benchmark indices rallied on Wednesday following a strong demand across index pivotals. The Nifty index touched its intraday high of 17,522.50, paring gains immediately after to close beneath the 17,500 level.
As per provisional closing figures, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex rose 740.34 points or 1.28% at 58,683.99.
