In a significant development, US President Donald Trump has issued a new Space Policy Directive (SPD) which will allow NASA to set up a nuclear reactor on the surface of the moon by 2026.

Chinese military experts expressed fear that helium-3, which is present in large quantities on the moon's surface, can be used by the US to produce energy by nuclear fusion. Chinese experts claimed that the US is planning to turn the moon into a production site of nuclear weapons.
