COVID-19's Gut Connection: Harvard study throws light on how inflammation complication develops in children

A multidisciplinary research team from Harvard Medical School has identified the mechanism that causes an extremely rare but serious post-COVID-19 complication to develop in children and adolescents.

The team of researchers determined that viral particles remaining in the gut long after initial SARS-CoV-2 infection can travel into the bloodstream, instigating a condition called multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
