New research suggests that the goal of 10,000 steps per day is not evidence-based and may not be necessary for everyone. For individuals under 60, the greatest benefit was seen between 8,000 and 10,000 steps per day, while for those over 60, the threshold was lower, at 6,000 to 8,000 steps. Walking more than 10,000 steps did not increase the risk of mortality but offered limited additional benefits.
