Cinematographer and a long-time associate of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sudeep Chatterjee, recently took to the internet to announce the beginning of the shooting of the director’s highly anticipated, Netflix-backed project Heeramandi.

But the subject of courtesans is not something new in the universe of Bhansali, who has repeatedly returned to the figure of the prostitute – turning it almost into an archetypal trope across several of his works.
