A British trial hopes to establish whether a cannabis-based drug could help extend the lives of those diagnosed with aggressive brain tumours. The new trial hopes to look at whether using Sativex – an oral spray containing cannabinoids – in conjunction with chemotherapy could extend the overall length of glioblastoma patients’ lives, delay the progression of their disease, or improve their quality of life.

Dr David Jenkinson, interim chief executive at The Brain Tumour Charity, said: “We hope this trial could pave the way for a long-awaited new lifeline that could help offer glioblastoma patients precious extra months to live and make memories with their loved ones."
