Nepal is getting ready to move the Mt. Everest base camp because the Khumbu Glacier, which the base camp sits at the foot of, is melting and human activities are exacerbating the situation. The current camp is at an altitude of nearly 17,600 feet. The new one will reportedly be located some 1,300 feet lower.

The Khumbu glacier is just one of many in the Himalayas that’s melting much faster than usual.
