Phosphine In Venus’ Atmosphere Points To Volcanics, Not Life

Dreams of life in Venus’ atmosphere seem to have been squelched definitively with yesterday’s announcement that last year’s detection of phosphine high in the planet’s dense clouds was more likely the result of explosive vulcanism than some sort of microbial life.

The news comes with the publication of a paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
