Scientists at Washington State University have discovered that plants can register the beginning and end of touch by sending slow waves of calcium signals to their cells. Using specially bred plant species with calcium sensors, the researchers found that plant cells are finely sensitive to touch and can sense pressure changes. Further research is needed to understand how plants respond to touch at a genetic level.
