India’s effective reproduction number ‘R’ for COVID has decreased to 1.04 this week. In Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Bihar, the metric has dipped below 1. An epidemic is considered to be under control when the R-value remains below 1 consistently.

R-value, as well as R0, is an estimate of the number of people a patient can infect. For India, the R0 was calculated to be about 1.83 in April.
