Sensex plunges over 700 pts to crack below 56K level

The BSE gauge Sensex tumbled 709 points to slip below the 56,000-mark on Tuesday, dragged lower by massive selloffs in IT shares and index heavyweights Reliance Industries and HDFC duo amid the ongoing geopolitical crisis in Eastern Europe.
Logging its first drop in six sessions, the 30-share Sensex settled the day at 55,776.85 – registering a loss of 709.17 points or 1.26 percent. Intraday, the index fell over 1,000 points.
