Story behind Republic Day: Why it is celebrated on January 26

Republic Day is celebrated on January 26, marking the date when the Indian Constitution came into effect, completing India’s transition to becoming an independent republic. After the Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, it was brought into effect on January 26, 1950.
