Virgin Galactic’s first crewed test flight on its SpaceShipTwo Unity spacecraft from Spaceport America in New Mexico failed to reach the space border.

The craft was carried aloft by the aircraft carrier WhiteKnightTwo and was released as planned. Then, witnesses report that the engines of the SpaceShipTwo Unity only fired for a second before shutting down. Fortunately, the pilots were able to maintain control of the vehicle and land it safely, and no one was injured.
