PVC material, typically used in construction and hydraulic installations, has gained a new use in the city of Santo Andre, Brazil, with luthiers turning the material into violins for dozens of young musicians.

Substituting traditionally used wood with PVC pipes drastically brings down the cost of these musical instruments.
