We must get a grip on forest science before it’s too late

Humanity’s understanding of how forests are responding to climate change is disconcertingly fragile. Take carbon fertilization, it is one of the principal mechanisms by which nature has so far saved us from the worst of climate change.

Researchers don’t fully understand how climate change interacts with a multitude of forest processes. Forests are our life-support system, and we should know more about them.
