West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee demands national status for Gangasagar Mela

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee demanded that the Centre accord national status for the annual Gangasagar Mela which will be held next week here in the state’s South 24 Parganas district. Banerjee reached Sagar Island on Wednesday afternoon to review the preparations for the upcoming Gangasagar Mela to be held between January 8 and 16. Gangasagar is "a unique fair" as the only mode to reach Sagar Island, the venue of the Mela, is by crossing waterways, the CM said.
