Why China is struggling with international travel, geopolitical tensions, economic timidity

With world leaders, like France’s Emmanuel Macron, Spain’s Pedro Sanchez and Singapore’s Lee Hsien Loong, travelling to Beijing, people are under the impression that international travel to China has completely normalised. But international flights originating from and heading to the country haven’t witnessed the expected rebound after Beijing dropped the Covid-19 travel restrictions in November last year. The dismal return of international flights reflects a deeper geopolitical tension.
